North East Indian Churches and Foreign Mission

Laiu Fachhai, SIMNEI Director

The church has a two-fold purpose for its existence - what it ought to be and what it ought to do. The “to be” part is mainly about believers living a Christ-like life and thus becoming the salt and light of the earth. The “to do” part is what we may call missions. Of course, the “to be” and “to do” components are inseparable. A church must be doing both if it is a true church. Humankind has two basic needs – physical including intellectual needs and spiritual needs. Anyone, any organization can meet human’s physical need, but only the Church can meet human’s spiritual need in and through the preaching of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, if the Church is not preaching the Gospel, no one else will do it. Thus, this article will mainly deal with the “to do” part of the church, with special emphasis on North East Indian churches’ involvement in foreign missions.
